Due to a high demand for Stone, tile and floor coverings we have decided to shift our companies focus. We are greatly scaling back on the amount of Renovation work we do. Most renovation projects will be turned down or scheduled later in the year. I strongly believe that by focusing our efforts on a smaller subset of trades we will be able to grow our business and retain our high quality standards.
We are working hard on a new website that will hopefully be up in the coming weeks. The new site will include:s descriptions of the scope of our work, product packages including prices, inspirational ideas, photographs and plenty useful information. Let us quickly walk you through a scenario. You need to let your staff know about a new policy or would like a site supervisor to be aware of some new useful information. The traditional and popular method in the construction industry would be to call the staff member or hold a meeting. It doesn't take a genius to realize that this is going to take a lot more time and disrupt you staff members work-flow. If you send an e-mail instead the staff members can check there e-mail when they are not busy getting things done for your company, take some time to think about it undisturbed, and offer there input or ask questions if necessary for you to interpret at your convenience.
When management meetings are necessary and not done on site they can be quickly organized and held via video chat. Skype is a free service that makes this process simple and effective. If more advanced meeting features are required or you need to hold meetings with clients that don't really understand what Skype is, a paid for service like Goto Meeting is a great incredibly simple way to hold remote meetings. Using services like Google Docs and Zoho Office we can even collaborate in real time on company documents.
All of our document collaboration nearly free services. Document creation and editing can be done online with both of these services or done locally and uploaded at a later time. Our field notes, time sheets, and safety forms are all done with Google Docs forms. All of our site supervisors receive the forms by E-mail. The forms are filled out every day, all of the data then goes into our data base where the necessary calculations are made in minutes. Imagine how many hours the are saved by nearly eliminating the need for office staff to collect and aggregate all of this information.
Thanks to Zoho and Google we don't need MS Office. If we do need to do some really heavy lifting or don't have Internet access at the time we use the 100% free and cross platform open office.
